Project guide

What to include in a manufacturing enquiry.

A clear brief helps us understand the job and prepare a useful quote. Use this checklist for CNC machining, milling, 3D printing, electrical assemblies or ongoing production.

1. Explain what the part needs to do

Describe its intended use, the environment it will operate in and any components it needs to fit. Mention heat, loads, movement or exposure that may affect the manufacturing approach.

2. Include drawings, models and the current revision

Attach the files you have and identify the version you want made. A 3D model shows the shape; a drawing can communicate dimensions and other requirements. For electrical assemblies, include schematics, pinouts, wiring schedules, component lists and any required torque or inspection records. If you only have a sketch or an idea, tell us what is known and what still needs developing.

3. Identify critical dimensions and tolerances

Highlight dimensions that affect fit or function. Do not assume every feature needs the same tolerance. If a hole, mating face or clearance matters to the assembly, explain why and include its requirement in the drawing.

4. Specify material and finish

State the material you need, or describe the properties the part must have if you are unsure. Include appearance, colour and surface finish requirements where relevant. We confirm the options against your project before work begins.

5. Set out quantities and ongoing demand

Tell us the initial order quantity and whether you expect repeat production. Distinguish development samples from the final production requirement, and mention any variations of the same product.

6. Share timing and delivery requirements

Include the date you need the parts, whether that date is flexible and the UK delivery destination. For online sellers, describe any packaging or assembly you will handle after receiving the items.

7. Prepare and send your enquiry

Use our enquiry form to prepare an email, attach your project files in your email app and send it to Western Rose. Preparing the email does not submit the enquiry: you decide when to send it.
